First Train Departs from Railport, Türkiye’s First Private Intermodal Terminal

Türkiye’s first private intermodal terminal Railport launched its rail terminal operations with its first train service on November 21st, 2025. The initial departure from the terminal marks a significant milestone in Railport’s operational rollout and represents an important step toward strengthening Türkiye’s intermodal transportation capacity.

The first service was operated by Metrans, a railway operator known for its long-standing history and extensive experience in intermodal transportation. This collaboration is regarded as a strategic starting point that supports the use of rail for freight movements between Türkiye and Europe.

Railport’s high-standard terminal infrastructure, large handling capacity, technological operation systems, and critical geographic location will enable cargo moving by rail between Türkiye and Europe to be transported in a more regular, safer, and more sustainable model. The first train movement stands as an important step that strengthens the terminal’s connection with international intermodal networks.

Railport General Manager Fatih Yilmazkarasu stated: “The first train departure carried out from Railport is a concrete indicator of the contribution our terminal will provide to Türkiye’s rail transportation. This operation marks the beginning of our long-term strategy aiming to increase the effective use of intermodal transportation in our country and to offer competitive options to our customers.”

Following this initial movement, the cooperation between Railport and Metrans is planned to continue with regular train services, contributing to the creation of a sustainable logistics structure on the Türkiye-Europe rail corridor.
