Arkas Bunker Presents Its “Green Fuel” Vision at the EBRD Workshop

Arkas Bunker, participating in the workshop co-organized by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, EBRD, and the EU, is guiding Türkiye’s maritime decarbonization journey. The company carried the domestic biofuel ecosystem to the international platform with its “Green Corridor” vision.

As emission targets and regulations intensify pressure on the global maritime sector, Türkiye has initiated a strategic move in this transformation. In this context, Arkas Bunker’s visionary presentation in the biofuel field stood out at the “Çeşme–Trieste Green Shipping Corridor” meeting held on March 26 and the “Turkish Maritime Fuel Transition Workshop” held on March 27.

Green Transition with Zero Investment

As part of the workshop, Arkas Bunker General Manager Seçkin Gül delivered a presentation titled “Powering the Green Corridor: Türkiye’s Marine Biofuel Ecosystem” together with Biofuels Industry Association Chair Selçuk Borovalı, offering a concrete solution to the sector’s biggest challenge, high investment costs. Gül highlighted that biofuels can be used in existing ship engines via the “drop-in” method without requiring any changes, stating that these fuels are the most pragmatic option for immediate decarbonization.

Arkas Bunker: Türkiye’s First Certified Supplier

The presentation emphasized the critical role of Arkas Bunker as Türkiye’s first ISCC EU-certified marine fuel supplier. The first biofuel bunkering operation in Türkiye, realized in May 2024, showed that this ecosystem is not merely on paper, but has been operationalized. The company aims to reduce vessels’ emission levels with different blending options such as Bio24F, Bio30F, and B100, while also minimizing carbon tax (EU ETS) costs.

Fully Integrated Value Chain in Biofuels

Arkas Bunker’s strategy goes beyond fuel supply. One of the key highlights of the presentation was the emphasis on a “Fully Integrated National Ecosystem.” It was highlighted that managing the entire value chain within Türkiye—from the collection of local waste to advanced refining processes and physical bunkering—will position Türkiye as a biofuel bunkering hub in the Mediterranean.

A Sustainability Vision Ready for the Future

Arkas Bunker positions itself not only as a supplier in maritime fuel transition, but also as a solution partner. The strategic partnerships developed in line with the company’s R&D initiatives and sustainability objectives are regarded as one of the most tangible steps supporting Türkiye’s a “Green Corridor” ambitions in international maritime.
