ARKAS ART

Arkas Art’s October Program

This October, Arkas Art brings art lovers a series of workshops for children, families, and adults, as well as guided exhibition tours at the Lucien Arkas Art Center, Arkas Art Bornova, and Arkas Art Göztepe.

Throughout October, a comprehensive program centered around color, light, weaving, Turkish painting, and various art techniques will take place across three different Arkas Art centers. While activities inspired by the Lumina: The Art of Color and Light exhibition stand out at the Lucien Arkas Art Center, Anatolian carpets and weaving culture form the focus of the programs at Arkas Art Bornova, while Turkish painting is at the heart of programs for different age groups at Arkas Art Göztepe.

Different Interpretations of Color and Light at the Lucien Arkas Art Center

The Lucien Arkas Art Center’s October program brings the concepts of color, light, movement, rhythm, and visual perception together with different age groups through the Lumina: The Art of Color and Light exhibition.

In the “What Does a Painting Say?” series, children are introduced to the artistic worlds of Vasily Kandinsky, Maurice de Vlaminck, and Etel Adnan, while “Color Modules” brings Gerhard Richter’s approach to color and “Collage and Visual Score” brings Henry Valensi’s exploration of the relationship between painting and rhythm into the works created by young participants. The “What Do Emotions Look Like?” and “One Book, One Workshop: The Dot” programs also highlight the connection between art, emotion, and storytelling.

In the adult program, “On the Canvas: Traces of Movement” translates movement, light, and energy onto the canvas, while the three-week “Light Object: Form and Material” program explores the relationship between light, design, and different materials. The “Art Break” tours, held at lunchtime on Fridays, examine the Lumina exhibition from different perspectives through the themes of synesthesia, electrical effects, and Op Art.

The program brings together different age groups, from children to adults, around the themes of color, light, and perception explored in the Lumina: The Art of Color and Light exhibition.

From Anatolian Carpets to Contemporary Creations at Arkas Art Bornova

The October program at Arkas Art Bornova focuses on Anatolian carpets, weaving culture, motifs, and materials. In the four-week “Basic Weaving Techniques and Practices” program for adults, led by Ecem Tosun, participants explore basic weaving techniques and the relationships between color, motif, and surface. The program brings traditional weaving culture and contemporary design approaches together within the same creative process.

In the children’s programs, motifs and textures from the carpet collection are reinterpreted through different techniques. “Print by Print: A Carpet,” “Rhythmic Relief,” and “The Journey of Threads” offer a variety of experiences ranging from printmaking and relief to basic weaving and color studies. “Learning at the Museum: Colorful Traces of Wool” introduces younger children to the journey from wool to yarn and from yarn to carpet, while “Play, Learn, Create: The Art of Nature” makes the garden of Mattheys Mansion part of the program. The “Intergenerational Exhibition Tour,” to be held at the end of the month, brings children and older family members together through art.

The program at Arkas Art Bornova transforms the colors, motifs, and weaving traditions of Anatolian carpets into a contemporary learning experience through creative activities for different age groups.

Turkish Painting and Different Art Techniques at Arkas Art Göztepe

Arkas Art Göztepe’s October program consists of activities inspired by works by Turkish painters in the Arkas Collection, as well as the architecture and natural surroundings of the Ayşe & Seniha Mayda Mansion.

In the four-week “Color Linocut Printing with the Reduction Technique” program led by Prof. Ceren Bulut Yumrukaya, participants experience the process of creating multicolored prints using a single linoleum block. Designed for children, “A Response to Turkish Painting” focuses on the relationship between color, form, and composition through works from different periods in the collection, while “Colors of the Sun in the Garden” brings together the mansion’s-stained glass windows, garden, and daylight in a shared artistic experience.

“Learning at the Museum: The Path in the Painting,” “Mosaic Figure,” and “A Painting from Pieces” also bring different age groups together with studies of color, form, texture, and composition inspired by works in the collection. The guided exhibition tour for adults examines different periods of Turkish painting through the styles of the artists and the themes they explored.

The October program brings Turkish painting together with processes of observation, play, and creation for different age groups, while also making the mansion and garden experience in Göztepe a natural part of the art program.
