Arkas Line Highlights the Importance of Low-Carbon Maritime Transport in the Mediterranean

Arkas Line supported the Mediterranean Decarbonisation Meetings held in Marseille as a gold sponsor. Speaking on a panel during the event, Serra Tükel, Sustainability Director of Arkas Maritime Group, emphasized the importance of alternative fuels, a regulatory framework, and cross-sector collaboration for low-carbon transport in the Mediterranean.

The Mediterranean Decarbonisation Meetings, which bring together representatives from the public sector, private sector, and financial community of 11 Mediterranean countries, were held in Marseille. Organized by the headquarters of Business France, the event addressed collaborations, investment opportunities, and innovative solutions aimed at the region’s low-carbon future.

As one of the gold sponsors of the event, Arkas Line—drawing on its deep-rooted expertise in shipping and historical ties to the Mediterranean, and standing as one of the region’s leading container transportation companies—shared its work on sustainable transport solutions and energy transition with participants throughout the event.

Low-Carbon Transport Solutions Discussed

As part of the event, Serra Tükel, Sustainability Director of Arkas Maritime Group, took part as a speaker in the panel titled “Low-Carbon Transport & Logistics: Solutions to Reduce Emission.”

During the panel, discussions focused on practices aimed at decarbonising sea transportation and logistics activities in the Mediterranean region, the wider adoption of alternative fuels, the importance of cross-sector collaboration, and the role of regulatory frameworks.

In her remarks, Tükel shared Arkas Line’s efforts toward energy transition as one of the companies in Türkiye advancing the use of biofuels, while also emphasizing the importance of developing the regulatory framework to enable the broader adoption of biofuels. Tükel further underlined that ports, fuel producers, cargo owners, and public authorities must all assume shared responsibility in the decarbonisation of maritime transport.
