Turkey’s first carbon market event, ‘Carbon Forward Turkey 2024,’ was held in Izmir on May 9-10, organized by Redshaw Advisors and Carbon Pulse. The event brought together over 250 experts from the private sector, finance, government, and civil society. The conference covered a wide range of topics, including Turkey’s climate policy, the Turkey Emission Trading System (ETS), challenges and opportunities in the voluntary carbon market. Additionally, discussions focused on the impact of ETS on energy prices and the energy sector, as well as the role of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) in international trade.
During the panel on ‘Carbon Pricing and ETS in Shipping,’ Serra Tükel, Sustainability Director at Arkas Line, joined Richard Wilson, General Manager of IncubEx, to discuss the inclusion of ETS in the maritime industry, the challenges posed by the process, and the technological, infrastructural, and financial aspects of decarbonization. The conference provided a platform for staying informed about industry developments, engaging with stakeholders, and learning best practices. Following Izmir, the international Carbon Forward conference will take place in Toronto on June 11-12 this year and in London on October 8-10.
