Ranked 33rd among the world’s top 100 vessel operators according to Alphaliner, Arkas Line has entered into a six-month pilot agreement with GenFlat, a company developing collapsible container technologies, commencing in April 2026. Within the scope of the agreement, Arkas Line will assess GenFlat’s innovative collapsible container solutions in real operational conditions.
Through a six-month pilot agreement signed with U.S.-based GenFlat Holdings, Inc., a company developing collapsible marine shipping containers, Arkas Line is evaluating collapsible container solutions and advancing new initiatives aimed at delivering cost savings for customers.
GenFlat’s collapsible containers collapse within 80 seconds once unstuffed and can be unfolded again in 20 seconds. When stacked in four-unit bundles, four empty containers can be transported within the footprint of a single standard container.
Up to 75% Savings with 4-to-1 Stacking
Stacking collapsible containers at a 4-to-1 ratio can deliver up to 75% savings in freight costs, terminal handling fees, transshipment charges, and related operational costs. It can also reduce carbon emissions from sea, road, and rail transport due to fewer voyage requirements, while enabling up to 75% space savings at ports, container yards, and distribution centers.
“Operational Data Will Support Decision-Making Processes”
Arkas Line COO Ziya Günay Özgürel commented on the initiative, stating, “Empty container management is among the most critical aspects of container operations in terms of cost and space utilization. The operational data to be obtained through this trial will contribute to more efficient planning of processes.”
“Our Technology Will Be Demonstrated in Real Operational Conditions”
GenFlat CEO Drew Hall stated, “We are pleased to implement this initiative with Arkas Line under real operational conditions. This process will demonstrate how our collapsible container technology delivers cost advantages, optimizes space utilization, and helps reduce congestion across the supply chain.”
As part of the six-month trial program set to commence in April 2026 and be conducted in pilot regions, Arkas Line aims to assess the operational processes of collapsible container transportation through data obtained directly from field operations.
