DenizTemiz Association/TURMEPA marked its 30th anniversary with a special dinner hosted by Rahmi M. Koc, Founder and Honorary President, and Sadan Kaptanoglu, Chairperson of the Board. During the event, a plaque was presented to Lucien Arkas, one of the key supporters of the association’s major projects.
Held at Divan Kurucesme, the event included the presentation of plaques to supporters of the association’s biggest projects. Sadan Kaptanoglu, Chairperson of the Board of DenizTemiz Association/TURMEPA, has presented a plaque to Lucien Arkas, Chairman of Arkas Holding. Alongside Lucien Arkas, Arkas Holding Vice President Diane Arkas Gocmez was also invited to the stage and received a plaque of appreciation in recognition of their contributions to the association as a member of the TURMEPA Board of Directors.
Over 450 guests have attended the event, including leading figures from Türkiye’s top environmental organizations and business leaders dedicated to combating marine pollution. Among the attendees were Can Atalay, Arkas Line CEO, Onur Gocmez, Arkas Holding Logistics Group President, Ozgur Kalelioglu, Arkas Holding Port and Terminal Services Group President, Haluk Iribas, Maritime Merchant Fleet General Manager, Ibrahim Kontaytekin, Maritime Merchant Fleet Group Vice President, and Sengul Atalay, Arkas Holding CHRO.
18 Million Liters of Seawater Kept Clean Over 17 Years
The Arkas TURMEPA II waste collection boat launched in 2006 through a partnership between Arkas Holding and TURMEPA, continues to keep the bays of Cesme clean. This project plays a crucial role in supporting sustainable marine tourism and preserving the local habitat. Over 17 years (2006-2023), Arkas TURMEPA II has removed 2.2 million liters of waste from the Cesme bays, ensuring that 18 million liters of seawater remain clean. In 2023 alone, the boat collected 135,000 liters of waste from 832 yachts and tourist boats, helping to preserve 1.1 million liters of seawater.
