It’s challenging to look at Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales, and create a ‘fairy tale,’ but she truly embodies the ideal commoner princess and queen of hearts. Kate Middleton, one of the most beloved figures of the British Royal Family, has recently been in the news due to health problems.

Shall we get to know Kate Middleton, who will become queen consort if Prince William, the first in the UK’s line to the throne, ascends to the throne?

From Middle Class to A Wealthy Family

Born in Reading on January 9, 1982, Catherine Elizabeth Middleton is the first child of a flight dispatcher father and a flight attendant mother, coming from a middle-class family. She grew up in the village of Bucklebury in Berkshire.

Her father, Michael, comes from a family with connections to the British aristocracy. The Middletons, including her great-grandmother Olive, hosted members of the British royal family in the early 20th century.

Her mother Carole was from a working-class family. Her great grandfather was a coal mine worker. Carole left school at the age of 16 and later graduated with high honors. She wanted to become a teacher, but her family could not afford a university education for her. She worked as a sales assistant at John Lewis department store. At British Airways, she started as a secretary, then became a ground handler, and eventually worked as an air hostess.

Michael and Carole married in 1980.

Kate, the Part-Time Waitress

Kate Middleton lived in Amman, Jordan, from 1984 to 1986 due to her father’s job with British Airways. When they returned to Berkshire, Kate was enrolled in St. Andrew’s School, a private school.

After giving birth to her third child, Carole founded Party Pieces, a mail-order party and decorating supplies company, in 1987. Its current value is estimated at £30 million.

Kate Middleton continued her education in a boarding school. She was fond of sports and served as captain of the women’s field hockey team. After graduating from high school, she spent a year abroad, engaging in various trainings and travels. She worked as a deckhand at the Port of Southampton.

She studied art history at the University of St Andrews in Scotland. She also studied psychology for a short time. As a university student, she worked as a part-time waitress. While studying, she also volunteered for various fundraising projects to support her school. She grew closer to her classmate Prince William while working together on one of these projects.

After finishing her master’s degree in art history, she began her career.

Both Business and Charity

In 2006, Kate Middleton briefly worked in the accessories department of the clothing store Jigsaw.

She organized a photography exhibition to support Alistair Morrison’s book “Time to Reflect”, raising funds for UNICEF. Naomi’s House Hospice arranged events for socially responsible organizations like Place2Be, which works to improve mental health in schools.

In 2011, she started working at the family business Party Pieces. Throughout her career, she supported numerous charities.

During this period, she lived with her sister in their parents’ apartment in the upscale London neighborhood of Chelsea.

Love at Second Sight

Kate met Prince William in 2001. A year later, she caught the young prince’s attention when she walked the runway in a see-through dress at a university fundraising fashion show.

The couple made their relationship public in 2003. The couple lived with two friends and faced intense scrutiny from the British press.

Kate and her family were constantly hounded by the press, leaving them little privacy. In 2007, the couple broke up amid ongoing speculation about whether they would get married. They quickly reunited, and in 2008, Kate attended William’s cousin’s wedding in his place, where she met Queen Elizabeth II for the first time. This wedding was seen as a sign that Kate was being welcomed into the royal family.

Kate attended Prince William’s investiture as a Royal Knight of the Garter at Windsor Castle and several royal weddings. However, the couple went through a few more breakups and reconciliations.

Wedding with Diana’s Ring

The British press constantly criticized Kate during their long relationship, cruelly calling her names like ‘Waity Katie.’

After Prince William finished his RAF helicopter course in Kenya, he proposed to Kate at the Lewa Wildlife Reserve with his mother Lady Diana’s sapphire and diamond ring. The couple announced their engagement in November 2010 after an eight-year relationship.

On April 29, 2011, they married at Westminster Abbey. The wedding was watched by 26 million people in the UK and over 300 million people worldwide on television.

Queen Elizabeth II gave the couple Anmer Hall, a country house on the Sandringham Estate. Kate, now Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cambridge, and William had three children: Prince George (2013), Princess Charlotte (2015), and Prince Louis (2018).

Deeply Loved and Highly Respected

Kate learned the two golden rules of royalty: never explain and never complain.

Despite constant media attention, she followed protocols and performed her duties perfectly. This earned her the love of the royal family and the establishment. Unlike Diana, who dreamed of being the ‘People’s Queen’ and often broke rules including dress codes, Kate adhered to royal traditions. For example, she didn’t wear sheer stockings. Kate? Kate does. Thanks to Kate, sales of sheer stockings even increased in the country.

Kate was beautiful, elegant, intelligent, and kind. She played a key role in improving the public image of the royal family. She was the modern princess of the modern world. She wasn’t born a princess, but it seemed as if she was made to be one.

She wasn’t the most social person, but everyone loved her. She was always genuine, down-to-earth, and full of love. She set an example with her behavior, mission, manners, sense of duty, style, devotion to family, calmness, and elegance.

William loved her because she was the warm family atmosphere he had longed for. Kate was the foundation of their home.

Queen Elizabeth II, who disliked Diana and tolerated Camilla, loved Kate because she couldn’t have asked for a more perfect successor. It was not without reason that the Queen had Kate sit next to her in the car she was driving, chauffeuring her.

Kate, who was listed in Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the World in 2011, 2012, and 2013, actually earne a place in people’s hearts, and that’s what matters. She maintained a good relationship with Queen Elizabeth II and honored her late mother-in-law, Lady Diana, at every opportunity.

She Had Her Home, What About Her Fortune?

Queen Elizabeth II, now suspected to be immortal, died on September 8, 2022, and was succeeded by her son Charles III. William became the Prince of Wales, and Kate became the Princess of Wales. Prince William is now first in line to the throne. When William ascends the throne, Kate will become consort queen, just like Camilla.

Princess Kate, who was diagnosed with early-stage cancer in March 2024, is currently undergoing chemotherapy. Her loved ones, both in the UK and all over the world, are hoping for a speedy recovery. They hope that one day she will have the good fortune to sit on the throne in good health.
