The second Green Transformation in Maritime Summit, organized by the IMEAK Chamber of Shipping and hosted by Piri Reis University, brought together top representatives of the maritime sector to discuss the industry’s sustainability-focused transformation.
At the “Alternative Energy Sources” panel, one of the key sessions of the summit, low-carbon fuels and biofuel applications in maritime transport were discussed. During the panel, which brought together representatives from the Energy Market Regulatory Authority, academics, and industry professionals, Arkas Bunker General Manager Seckin Gul stated that Arkas Bunker’s biofuel initiatives offer concrete and feasible solutions for the maritime sector’s low-carbon future.
Türkiye’s First ISCC-Certified Marine Biofuels
During his speech titled “Türkiye’s First Applications in Biofuels and Low-Carbon Marine Fuels,” Seckin Gul shared the initiatives implemented by Arkas Bunker in the field of sustainable marine fuels. Gul stated that Arkas Bunker, as the first fuel supply company in Türkiye’s maritime sector to hold the ISCC EU (International Sustainability & Carbon Certification) certificate, has successfully carried out certified biofuel supply operations. He emphasized that the introduction of products such as Bio24F, Bio30F, and B100 UCOME represents a critical milestone for the sector in terms of both emission reduction and compliance with international regulations. Seckin Gul noted that these practices not only deliver environmental benefits but also support Türkiye’s goal of becoming a regional green fuel bunkering hub.
These biofuels supplied under the ISCC EU certification contribute to reducing the carbon footprint of the maritime sector through their production from sustainable feedstocks and their traceable supply chain structures. The solutions developed by Arkas Bunker support operational efficiency, as they can be used without requiring any technical modifications on vessels, while simultaneously delivering environmental benefits.
