Arkas Sets the Course for Sustainable Fleet Growth

Arkas, the owner of Türkiye’s largest container vessel fleet, plans to grow its fleet from 49 to 59 vessels by 2028. With the addition of 10 new-generation container vessels, the company’s total capacity will increase from 86,430 TEU to 124,630 TEU.

In 2024, Arkas signed a contract with China’s renowned shipyard CSSC Huangpu Wenchong for six 4,300 TEU vessels. In April 2025, the company ordered four more vessels with a capacity of 3,100 TEU from the same shipyard. With a total investment of 560 million dollars, Arkas will receive 10 new vessels, growing its fleet to 59 vessels and its total capacity to 124,630 TEU. Moreover, Arkas holds the option to purchase two more vessels of the same capacity.

Arkas Will Receive the New Vessels in 2028

The ordered vessels are planned to be delivered throughout 2028, with deliveries scheduled for February, April, June, August, October, and December. Arkas is receiving long-term financing support from CIMC Financial Leasing, a Chinese company with which it has previously worked on investments.

A Younger Fleet with Reduced Carbon Emissions

These new vessels will expand Arkas’ fleet while aligning with its strategy for fleet renewal and eco-friendly operations. Built according to eco-design principles, these next-generation vessels are equipped with fuel performance measurement systems that will significantly cut carbon emissions. Six of these sub-panamax vessels will be the most technologically advanced and highest-capacity container vessels in the history of the Arkas fleet.
