This July, Arkas Art welcomes art enthusiasts to its venues across different locations in İzmir with exhibitions, certified workshops, guided tours, and creative learning programs. The program, presented at Lucien Arkas Art Center, Arkas Art Alaçatı, and Arkas Art Göztepe and designed for children, young people, families, and adults, offers visitors a comprehensive arts and culture itinerary for the summer season.
At Arkas Art Alsancak, the Fashion & Painting exhibition continues to welcome visitors until 26 July. Exploring the relationship between fashion and painting through works from different periods, the exhibition offers a new perspective on visual culture. Meanwhile, at the Lucien Arkas Art Center, the exhibition Sonia & Robert Delaunay: Inventing Modern Colour remains on view until 12 July. Shaped around the concepts of color, rhythm, and movement, the exhibition focuses on the artistic production of Sonia and Robert Delaunay, two of the pioneering figures of modern art.
At Arkas Art Alaçatı, the exhibition Claire Arkas: Seeing Comes Before Words brings together paintings and lithographs from the artist’s 22-year body of work. The exhibition creates a reflective space centered on ways of seeing, gaze, and perception. At Arkas Art Göztepe, Turkish Painters from the Arkas Collection continues to welcome visitors, while The Arkas Carpet Collection is on view at Arkas Art Bornova. At Arkas Art Urla, a selection of works from the Arkas Collection spanning different periods and artistic disciplines continues to meet with art lovers.
Programs Complementing the Exhibition at the Lucien Arkas Art Center
Throughout July, the Lucien Arkas Art Center brings together visitors of different age groups through exhibition-related learning programs and guided tours. The First Steps in Digital Art workshop, held between 2 and 9 July, introduces participants aged 7–10 to digital creative processes. On 4 July, Family Discovery: Guided Exhibition Tour offers children aged 5 and above and their families the opportunity to experience the exhibition together. Held during the Friday lunch break, Art Break: Guided Exhibition Tour provides adults with a brief artistic pause from the pace of city life on 10 and 17 July.
The From Volume to Form: Introduction to Sculpture workshop, taking place between 14 and 23 July, engages participants aged 9–12 in three-dimensional thinking, form-making, and hands-on material exploration. Beginning at the end of the month, Collage Techniques: Transform! will be held on 28–30 July and 3–5 August, offering children aged 7–10 a creative environment for artistic production using a variety of materials.
Summer Workshops at Arkas Art Alaçatı
Arkas Art Alaçatı stands out in July with workshops and certified summer programs designed for different age groups. On 3 July, the workshop Through a Different Lens: From Photograph to Canvas will be held for adults from 14:00 to 17:00, while Optical Castles, designed for children aged 4–6, will take place on the same day from 11:00 to 12:00. On 8 July, Sculptures from Flowers, a workshop for children aged 5 and above, will be offered from 11:00 to 12:30.
Certified summer workshops are among the highlights of Arkas Art Alaçatı’s July program. The Art of Seeing through Impressionism will be held on 8, 10, 15, and 17 July for participants aged 7–10, from 14:00 to 15:30. The program invites children to create through the exploration of light, color, observation, and impressionism. Beginning on 22 July, Fundamentals of Printmaking Techniques will take place on 22, 24, 29, and 31 July for participants aged 9–14, from 14:00 to 15:30. Through this program, participants will gain hands-on experience with a variety of creative processes based on fundamental printmaking methods.
Throughout July, Arkas Art Alaçatı also continues to offer individual workshops for both adults and children. Watercolor Landscape will be held for adults on 10 July from 11:00 to 12:30. On 15 July, Through My Camera’s Frame will bring together children aged 4–6 with observation, design, and composition from 11:00 and 12:00. Portrait of Nature, designed for children aged 2–3, will take place on 17 July from 11:00 to 12:00. The center will also host a Guided Exhibition Tour for adults on 18 July from 16:00 to 17:00, followed by a Guided Exhibition Tour for Children on 25 July for participants aged 5 and above.
Certified Workshops at Arkas Art Göztepe
In July, Arkas Art Göztepe presents an extensive program of certified workshops for children, young people, and adults. Still Life Studies will be held for participants aged 10–14 on 7, 9, 14, and 16 July, from 10:00 to 12:00. Through this program, participants will develop skills in observing objects, understanding proportion and scale, and creating balanced compositions.
Acrylic Landscape Painting will take place for children aged 7–10 on 21, 23, 28, and 30 July, from 10:00 to 12:00. The workshop introduces participants to a hands-on creative process focused on color, layering, depth, and observation of the natural world. The Göztepe program also includes Introduction to Miniature Art for participants aged 16 and above. Running from 21 July to 10 September, the workshop will be held over eight weeks on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 13:00 and 16:00. The program focuses on the fundamental principles of miniature art and its practical applications.
Collection Highlights at Arkas Art Bornova, Arkas Art Urla, and the Arkas Maritime History Center
Arkas Art Bornova presents a selection of works from the Arkas Carpet Collection at the historic Mattheys Mansion. Comprising Anatolian carpets produced in Western and Central Anatolia between the 16th and 19th centuries, the collection highlights the rich cultural heritage of traditional carpet weaving.
Arkas Art Urla offers visitors a multifaceted artistic experience through a selection from the Arkas Collection that includes paintings, sculptures, carpets, armor, and glass objects. Meanwhile, the Arkas Maritime History Center sheds light on the history of seafaring through its collection of ship models, paintings, and maritime antiques. Through scale models, artworks, and historical objects, the center presents the story of maritime history from 3000 BCE to the 20th century.
