Arkas Holding Risk Management Director and Legal Advisor, Attorney Vural Ocali, has become the first Turkish Lawyer as Council Member of the European Maritime Law Organisation (EMLO), which is among the world’s leading organizations in the maritime sector and is distinguished as an independent and impartial forum for discussion and research.
The European Maritime Law Organisation (EMLO), which plays a pioneering role in many issues concerning the maritime sector in Europe and the world which is comprised of the world’s leading lawyers, now has a Turkish member on its Executive Council.
Arkas Holding Risk Management Director and Legal Advisor, Attorney Vural Ocali was unanimously elected to the Council and will start his duty as of April 2024, together with the other 26 members.
Since its establishment in 1991, EMLO has been organizing conferences and seminars in a wide range of fields, from competition and maritime law issues to safety and environmental issues, where new policies, regulations and changes related to the maritime sector are announced and discussed.
EMLO has been at the forefront of the development of EU maritime policy over the last two decades and stands out as the only platform where the latest approaches and developments on competition and general maritime issues in the EU are reported, analyzed and opened up for critical debate. It also stands out as the only platform widely attended by maritime practitioners and compliance officers from leading ship owners, forwarders, shippers and trade associations in the EU.
Vural Ocali, born in Izmir in 1966, graduated as a Lieutenant from the Business Administration Department of the Turkish Military Academy in 1988. After graduating from The Artillery School in 1989, Vural Ocali then entered the Faculty of Law at 9 Eylül University, Izmir in 1990 and graduated in 1994.
After serving in various units of the Turkish Armed Forces between 1989 and 1996, Ocali transitioned into civilian life and established Ocali Law Office in 1998. In 2001, he joined Arkas Holding A.S. as a Risk Manager and currently serves as Arkas Holding Risk Management Director and Legal Advisor.
