DEKATHON 2025: Toward a Carbon-Free Future

As part of the fair, the “DEKATHON 2025 – Decarbonization in Transport Ideathon” was organized in collaboration with DB Tarimsal Enerji and IZFAS, bringing together representatives from the industry, academia, and the public sector. Aiming to promote decarbonization in logistics through next-generation energy solutions, the event sought to strengthen the cooperation between the university, industry, and government.

Speaking at the panel titled “Decarbonizing Transportation through Next-Generation Energy Applications,” Arkas Maritime Group Sustainability Director Serra Tukel shared the company’s biofuel usage experience since 2024 and highlighted its contribution to reducing carbon emissions. Tukel also emphasized that the steps taken toward a sustainable supply chain have accelerated transformation both for the company and the maritime industry.

More Efficient Operations, Cleaner Seas

Operating with a vision to protect the seas and preserve the planet for future generations, Arkas Line has achieved a 27.9% reduction in emissions compared to 2011 levels. By implementing new propeller designs, the company has improved energy efficiency by up to 8%, and as of 2024, it became the first container shipping company in Türkiye to use BIO24F, a biofuel blend.

Supplied by Arkas Bunker, BIO24F contains 24% biocomponent and allows Arkas Line to operate with a low-emission transport model. Without any technical modifications to its vessels, the company achieved a 22.8% reduction in emissions per voyage through the use of biofuel. Additionally, operational improvements in 2024 led to a 3.4% year-over-year decrease in greenhouse gas emissions.
