The Optimist European Championship, one of the most anticipated events in sailing, was conducted this year under the organization of Arkas Cesme Sailing Club. In the races held between May 29 and June 3, Cengiz Eren Guvenc from Yalikavak Sailing Club claimed the European championship title, while Ada Vera Tufekciler from FB Dogus Sailing Club finished third among the girls.
Aiming to develop youth talents and raise professional athletes to the Turkish sailing world, Arkas Cesme Sailing Club hosted the 2025 Optimist European Championship this year.
In the championship, held over six days in Cesme’s world-renowned, wind-driven waters, athletes under the age of 15 competed fiercely. At the event organized by Arkas Cesme Sailing Club, our national athletes won one gold and one bronze medal, and also secured first place as a team.
Türkiye Earned the Title of ‘Champion of Europe’ for the First Time in History
At the 2025 Optimist European Championship, organized through the collaboration of the International Optimist Dinghy Association (IODA) and the Türkiye Sailing Federation, our national athletes brought home a gold medal.
With the participation of 256 athletes from 43 countries, the title of “Champion of Europe” was awarded to Türkiye for the first time in history.
At the Optimist Boys Individual European Championship race, Cengiz Eren Guvenc (TUR 1440) from the Optimist National Team became European Champion and won the gold medal for Türkiye. Nicola Di Pilla (ITA 9650) from Italy took second place, while Agis Christos Angelopoulos (GRE 3074) from the UK finished third.
At the Optimist Girls Individual European Championship race, Maria De Lluc Brestard (ESP 3631) from Spain was crowned European Champion, followed by Eleni Triantou (GRE 3209) from Greece in second place. Ada Vera Tufekciler (TUR 1024) from the Optimist National Team secured the bronze medal by finishing third.
