Arkas Line has increased the number of vessels operating on its India Med Service (IMS) route to five, switching to a weekly service with an expanded capacity. Additionally, the company achieved a major milestone by delivering 86 reefer containers from ICD Dadri to Mundra Port by a double-stack block train.
With five vessels deployed on the IMS route, the company now offers a weekly service instead of the previous 10-day rotation. The service continues on the following rotation: Ambarli – Evyap – Aliaga – Mersin – Aqaba – Jeddah – Nhava Sheva – Mundra – Jeddah – Aqaba – Alexandria – Ambarli. This development provides a secure and efficient logistics corridor between the Mediterranean, the Red Sea, and India.
IMS is not limited to maritime transportation alone; it also integrates rail transport between inland regions of India and major ports. By extending the logistics chain from port to door, Arkas Line delivers comprehensive, time-efficient solutions for its customers.
Double-Stack Reefer Container Transport in India
In the first operation of its kind, export cargo originating in India was loaded onto the vessel Martha A after being transported from ICD Dadri to Mundra by rail. A total of 86 forty-foot reefer containers were moved in a double-stack configuration. These containers are designed specifically for temperature-controlled cargo, and the double-stack method enables two containers to be carried on a single wagon. This marks the first time in India that a double-stack train transport including reefer containers has been carried out by a single shipowner — a notable milestone in the industry.
