Arkas Supports Equal Opportunities in the Maritime Sector

The Cooperation and Goodwill Protocol, enabling equal opportunities for women and men in the maritime sector, was signed between the Turkish Directorate General of Maritime Affairs of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure and Arkas Shipping and Transport S.A. According to the Equal Opportunities Cooperation Protocol for Female Maritime Students, the ratio of female interns will be at least 10 % to all interns hired annually by Arkas Shipping and Transport S.A.

Arkas Shipping and Transport S.A. has signed the goodwill protocol prepared by the Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure to empower the social position of women in social and business life, to eliminate disadvantages and ensure equal opportunities between women and men in the maritime sector.

The cooperation protocol, which was prepared in accordance with the provisions of Article 10 of the Turkish Constitution and for the purpose of enabling equal opportunities to female students from the maritime faculty, has been signed by Ünal Baylan, General Director of the Directorate General for Maritime Affairs at the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, and Ali İbrahim Kontaytekin, CEO of Arkas Maritime Fleet. Within the scope of the 7-point protocol on the cooperation for equal opportunities of female maritime students, the ratio of female students to be selected among interns within a year will be at least 10 percent. This protocol covers a period of three years.

At the ceremony, the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu said: “Happy International Women’s Day to all women. I firmly believe that women, who have devoted themselves to the maritime sector, will reach a great success by doing their job in our Blue Homeland.

Arkas Shipping and Transport S.A. is already promoting the concept of female employees in the sector. At sea and on land, there are already thirty-nine female employees who are working on Arkas vessels that operate in 28 lines in the Mediterranean, Black Sea, Northern Europe and West Africa, where Arkas Line provides services.
