The Optimist Training Regatta races, which are test races held as preparation for the 2022 Arkas Optimist World Championship, have been completed. Having competed on behalf of Arkas Cesme Sailing Youth and Sports Club, our athlete Mert Cakmak has ranked second at the races, in which 108 sailors and 24 sports clubs from 12 countries have participated.
Sailors from the USA, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Hungary, Malta, Serbia, Singapore, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine and New Zealand have attended the Optimist Training Regatta races, hosted by Bodrum Municipality Bodrumspor Club Sailing Branch. Nathan Soper from Murray’s Bay Sailing Club of New Zealand has come first in the Junior category, trailed in second place by Mert Cakmak from Arkas Cesme Sailing Youth and Sports Club and by Mehmet Erkut Budak from Istanbul Sailing Club in the third place. At the event, the winners of the races in the classes Junior Girls, Optimist Girls and General Overall Placing of the Optimist class have been presented with awards. Moreover, the winners of the Optimist Nations Cup, special award of the Turkish Sailing Federation, have been announced.
Sailors, achieving a high rank, have been awarded with an award ceremony at the end of the races that started on May 29 and lasted for six days. Ozlem Akdurak, Turkish Sailing Federation President, Hakan Yenigun, Vice President of the Turkish Sailing Federation, Bilgehan Bayar, Governor of Bodrum, Ahmet Aras, Mayor of Bodrum, and Oktay Dumruk, Bodrum Youth and Sports District Manager, have attended the ceremony as well.
