Arkas Art Center brings the Parisian atmosphere to Izmir for its 24th exhibition of the new season. On view from September 28, 2022 to February 12, 2023, “L’Air de Paris – The Air of Paris” focuses on Turkish artists who moved to Paris from Istanbul between 1945 and 1968 and continued their artistic work there, stayed in the city for a certain period of time, or chose to stay in Paris for the rest of their lives. The exhibition also sheds light on the phase when Turkish artists who went to Paris after World War II, moved away from academic art education and gained their individual authenticity.
When was Turkish art liberated? When were artists able to stand on their own feet, away from the influence of their European teachers? In line with the liberating dynamics that Paris provided to artists after World War II, the exhibition raises some questions that have not been sufficiently considered in our country until now, such as “What were the contributions of the artists who settled in Paris to Turkish Art?”.
In the exhibition “L’Air de Paris – The Air of Paris”, documents, letters, sketches and notebooks of artists who have made significant contributions to the modernization of Turkish Art will be on display. The exhibition will showcase the works of Lèopold Lèvy, Fikret Mualla, Hale Asaf, Fahrelnissa Zeid, Zeki Faik Izer, Nurullah Berk, Hakki Anlı, Sabri Berkel, Fureya Koral, Abidin Dino, Hulusi Mercan, Selim Turan, Cihat Burak, Adnan Varınca, Sukriye Dikmen, Avni Arbas, Ilhan Koman, Leyla Gamsiz, Lutfi Ozkok, Neset Gunal, Nejad Devrim, Mubin Orhon, Nedim Gunsur, Traje Dikmen, Adnan Coker, Turan Erol, Kuzgun Acar, Semiramis Zorlu, Albert Bitran, Oktay Gunday, Ferit Iscan, Erdal Alantar, Gunes Karabuda, Yuksel Arslan and Muzehher Bilen Pasin.
